Polyurethane (PU): The Ultimate Flooring Solution: Durable, Resistant, and Sustainable

When it comes to industrial flooring, polyurethane (PU) stands out as the superior choice. Its exceptional combination of durability, resistance, and sustainability makes it the ultimate solution for a wide range of applications. We have conducted some tests to highlight the key advantages of PU.

Chemical properties comparison between PU and Epoxy.

Chemical Resistance:

  • PU exhibits stronger resistance to hydrochloric acid (HCl) and sulfuric acid (H2SO4) compared to Epoxy. This makes PU a more suitable choice for environments exposed to these chemicals.

  • PU also demonstrates superior resistance to fruit acids and lactic acid, making it ideal for food processing applications where these acids are commonly present.

Temperature Resistance:

  • PU can withstand higher temperatures, with an upper temperature bound of +40°C compared to Epoxy +°C.

  • PU can also withstand lower temperatures, with a lower temperature bound of -50°C compared to Epoxy -35°C. This makes PU suitable for both hot and cold environments.

Water Resistance:

  • PU offers exceptional water resistance, capable of withstanding 168 hours of continuous soaking without peeling off. This is significantly superior to Epoxy, which does not have a specified water resistance rating.

Mechanical properties comparison between PU and Epoxy

Tensile Bond Strength:

  • PU exhibits exceptional tensile bond strength, both in standard conditions and after prolonged immersion in water. This indicates that PU flooring is firmly bonded and resistant to peeling, even in wet environments.

  • Epoxy does not have a specified tensile bond strength after immersion in water, suggesting that its bond strength may be compromised in wet conditions.

Flexural Strength:

  • PU demonstrates superior flexural strength, indicating its resistance to cracking and deformation under impact. This makes PU a more durable choice for environments where heavy objects may be dropped or dropped.

  • Epoxy has a lower flexural strength, suggesting that it may be more susceptible to cracking under impact.

Dry Friction Coefficient:

  • PU offers a higher dry friction coefficient, providing better anti-slip performance and ensuring safer working conditions.

  • Epoxy has a lower dry friction coefficient, which may increase the risk of slips and falls.

Abrasion Resistance:

  • PU exhibits excellent abrasion resistance, resulting in longer-lasting and more durable flooring under heavy load conditions.

  • Epoxy Self Leveling Forintech does not have a specified abrasion resistance rating, suggesting that it may be less resistant to wear and tear.

Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs):

  • PU has significantly lower VOC emissions, in line with food-grade purification environmental requirements. This makes PU a safer choice for environments where food safety is a concern.

  • Epoxy has higher VOC emissions, potentially contributing to indoor air pollution and posing health risks.

Harmful Solvents and Gases:

  • PU does not emit any harmful solvents or toxic gases, ensuring a safe working environment.

  • Epoxy emits benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and xylene, which are known to be harmful to human health.

PU flooring offers a comprehensive solution for industrial environments. Its durability, resistance, and sustainability make it the ideal choice for businesses seeking a long-lasting, reliable, and environmentally friendly flooring option. By choosing PU, you're investing in a flooring solution that will enhance the safety, efficiency, and aesthetics of your workspace.
